18 May 2025

The Ministry of Infrastructure is actively implementing a range of initiatives, including the rehabilitation of international and local roads, the construction and renovation of schools and kindergartens, upgrades to water supply systems, and urban renewal efforts in villages and towns.

Road infrastructure projects totaling over GEL 28.6 million are currently underway, with completion expected in phases between 2026 and 2027.

Key rehabilitation works include improvements to the Tbilisi–Bakurtsikhe –Lagodekhi road and overbridges, as well as sections of the Chalaubani–Signagi–Anaga road, the Signagi–Tsnori road, and local roads connecting villages to the central highway in Gurjaani municipality. The projects involve resurfacing roads with asphalt-concrete, renovating existing artificial structures, constructing new ones, and installing culverts, driveway entrances, and road signs.

Minister Sokhadze, accompanied by David Songhulashvili, Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture; Giorgi Aladashvili, Governor of Kakheti; and local government representatives, toured various urban renewal sites.

The United Water Supply Company, under the Ministry of Infrastructure, is leading 25 water supply rehabilitation and construction projects in Kakheti, ensuring that approximately 107,000 residents will have access to 24-hour water supply upon completion.

Additionally, construction and renovation of 35 kindergartens throughout the Kakheti  region will be carried out under the State Program on Kindergarten Construction and Rehabilitation and with the support of ADB.

The Municipal Development Fund is spearheading the urban renewal project in Velistsikhe, aimed at enhancing its historical and architectural appeal. This initiative includes the restoration of several buildings in Velistsikhe’s center, improvements to the square in front of the Velistsikhe Theater, upgrades to the central street, and enhancements to the adjacent park. The historic Velistsikhe Theater, named after Vaso Godziashvili, will also undergo façade and ground-floor restoration.

Through these strategic infrastructural projects, Kakheti is set to become an increasingly vibrant tourist destination, rich in historic and architectural value, while fostering new economic opportunities for local communities.
